Pyongyang International Conference Held

The Pyongyang International Conference on Promoting Sustainable Development was held at the People’s Palace of Culture on October 5 and 6.

Present there were officials of relevant units of the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Urban Management and the State General Bureau of Tourism, and teachers and researchers of science and education institutions.

Also present were Prof. Kyung-Ae Park at University of British Columbia in Canada who doubles as director of the Canada-DPRK knowledge partnership program and experts from Malaysia, US, China, India and UK and staff members of foreign diplomatic missions and missions of international organizations in the DPRK.

Speakers said that the environment protection is an important work to guarantee the sustainability of the country’s economic development and promote the wellbeing of people and posterity.

They noted that the conference would contribute to broadening the views of experts, helping develop the world in a sustainable way and boosting international exchange and cooperation.

The conference was divided into the panels of climate change, sustainable development of agriculture, forestry management, water resources management, management of wastes and sustainable development of tourism.

Speakers explained the achievements and experience gained in working out the strategy for sustainable development by protecting environment.

The conference marked a significant occasion in exchanging beneficial views on the issues arising in laying the foundation for sustainable development and acquiring broad knowledge.
